Japanese Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto Attracts Interest from Giants, Yankees

San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi has paused the search for the team's new manager to scout Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who has a record of 17-6 and an ERA of 1.16 in the 2023 season.
Several MLB teams including the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets are expected to bid for Yamamoto's services in the upcoming offseason.
The Yankees, despite having an ace in Gerrit Cole, are interested in Yamamoto as the rest of the club's pitching rotation has underperformed, with no other pitcher with at least 10 starts finishing with an ERA below 4.
Zaidi has shown longstanding interest in Yamamoto, describing him as one of the top starting pitchers globally, and the Giants are looking to boost their pitching staff to return to the playoffs.
Even though the Giants attempted but failed to acquire Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga last offseason, there's a sense within the industry this year that the Giants won't allow another team to outbid them for Yamamoto's services.
