Jean-Paul Boetius Signs with Darmstadt 98 After Battling Cancer

The 30-year-old midfielder returns to professional football following two cancer treatments and a lengthy recovery period.

Jean-Paul Boetius, formerly of Mainz 05 and Hertha BSC, has joined German second-division team SV Darmstadt 98.
Boetius was diagnosed with a testicular tumor in September 2022, which required surgical removal, and underwent further cancer treatment in March 2024.
After being without a club during his recovery, Boetius has now signed a professional contract with Darmstadt, though the contract's duration has not been disclosed.
He will wear the number 10 jersey for his new team, marking a significant step in his comeback to professional football.
Darmstadt's sporting director praised Boetius's resilience, noting his determination to return to the field, but emphasized that he will need time to regain full fitness.
