Jets Part Ways With Veteran Wheeler

The Winnipeg Jets have bought out the contract of forward Blake Wheeler.
The 34-year-old Wheeler was entering the third year of a 5-year, $41.25 million contract.
Wheeler was named captain of the Jets in August 2016 and has spent the past nine seasons with the franchise.
He recorded 15 goals and 54 assists in 71 games for Winnipeg this past season.
The move frees up $5.6 million in cap space for Winnipeg heading into the start of free agency.
