Jewish Boy Attacked in Rome Over Wearing a Kippa

A 33-year-old Egyptian asylum seeker assaulted an 8-year-old boy and his mother in a suspected antisemitic attack on a busy street in Rome.

  • The attack occurred on Rome's Via Nazionale when the boy, wearing a kippa, was confronted with antisemitic insults before being physically assaulted.
  • The attacker, identified as an Egyptian asylum seeker, struck and kicked the child, who tried to hide near his mother for protection.
  • A local shopkeeper intervened to help the boy and his mother but was threatened and attacked by the assailant with a broken bottle.
  • The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested by Italian anti-terror police near the site of the attack, with the broken bottle found in his possession.
  • Authorities are investigating the case as attempted bodily harm with intent to disfigure, a charge newly recognized in Italy following a series of acid attacks.
