Johnson's induction was announced by Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones prior to a game against the Carolina Panthers.
Johnson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020, but his exclusion from the Cowboys' Ring of Honor had become a significant story.
Johnson and Jones, who were college teammates at Arkansas, had a close working relationship during their time with the Cowboys, despite a public breakup following the team's second Super Bowl win.
Johnson later coached the Miami Dolphins from 1996 to 1999, but never returned to the Super Bowl.
