Jonathan Toews Taking 2023-24 Season Off After Long Battle With Health Issues

Toews played final game with Blackhawks in April 2023 after 15-season career as team captain.
He missed 2020-21 season and part of 2022-23 season due to long COVID-19 effects and chronic immune response syndrome.
Toews expressed gratitude to Blackhawks and Chicago but said he is not retiring.
He stated he is focusing on overcoming ongoing health challenges and has not ruled out a future return.
Toews tallied 883 points in 1,067 games with Blackhawks and won three Stanley Cups with the team.
