Just Eat Takeaway.com Acquired by Prosus in €4.1 Billion Deal

The all-cash acquisition positions Prosus as the fourth-largest food delivery company globally and aims to bolster its European operations.

  • Prosus, a Dutch technology investor owned by South Africa's Naspers, has agreed to purchase Just Eat Takeaway.com for €4.1 billion ($4.3 billion) in an all-cash deal.
  • The acquisition values Just Eat shares at €20.30 each, representing a 63% premium over its last closing price but only a fifth of its pandemic-era peak valuation.
  • Just Eat has faced challenges following the pandemic, including a failed U.S. expansion with Grubhub, which it sold for $650 million after acquiring it for $7.3 billion in 2021.
  • The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, is expected to be finalized by the end of 2025, with Just Eat’s leadership and Amsterdam headquarters remaining intact.
  • Prosus plans to leverage its expertise in AI and food delivery, as demonstrated with its Brazilian platform iFood, to drive growth and efficiency at Just Eat Takeaway.com.
