Overview

  • The ongoing app-based survey to map Scheduled Caste sub-castes in Karnataka has been extended from May 17 to May 25 due to low coverage in Bengaluru, where only 33% of households have been enumerated.
  • Special booth-level camps will be held from May 26 to 28, and online self-declaration will be open from May 19 to 28 to ensure no households are left out.
  • Over 70% of households statewide have been surveyed, with 78 lakh individuals covered out of an estimated 1.17 crore Scheduled Caste population.
  • The survey will inform internal reservation recommendations by analyzing socio-economic data and representation across 101 sub-castes, with the potential inclusion of four additional castes in the Scheduled Caste list.
  • The Union Government has expressed interest in the app-based methodology, marking it as a pioneering approach for caste enumeration in India.
