Kentucky Motel Ordered to Pay $2M After Fatal Scalding Incident

76-year-old Alex Chronis died from severe burns after a 150-degree shower at an Econo Lodge in Erlanger, Kentucky.

The incident occurred in November 2021 when Chronis was struck by scalding water in the shower, causing him to fall and sustain third-degree burns.
Chronis attempted to treat his burns with over-the-counter medication before eventually seeking hospital treatment, where he stayed for several months.
Despite multiple medical procedures, including skin grafts, Chronis succumbed to his injuries in June 2022.
A lawsuit filed by Chronis' family accused the motel of negligence and sought $7 million in damages.
A jury awarded Chronis' estate $2 million, including compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, funeral costs, and punitive damages.
