Key ISIS-K Figure in 2021 Kabul Airport Bombing Captured and Faces U.S. Justice

Mohammad Sharifullah, linked to the deadly Abbey Gate attack and other terror plots, has been extradited to the U.S. following a joint operation with Pakistan.

  • Mohammad Sharifullah, an ISIS-K member, has been extradited to the U.S. to face charges related to the 2021 Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul that killed 13 U.S. service members and approximately 170 Afghan civilians.
  • Sharifullah admitted to scouting the attack route for the bomber and coordinating with ISIS-K operatives during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
  • He is also connected to a 2024 ISIS-K attack on a Moscow concert venue that killed around 130 people, having provided weapons training to the attackers.
  • Sharifullah was captured in Pakistan's Balochistan province in a joint operation involving U.S. and Pakistani intelligence agencies after years on the run.
  • The arrest has been hailed by President Trump and U.S. officials as a significant step in holding those responsible for the Kabul bombing accountable.
