Kyrie Irving Accused of Complaining About 'I'm a Jew and I'm Proud' Signs at NBA Game

Rabbi Avremi Zippel claims Utah Jazz security made him put down the sign after Irving's complaint, while Irving's representative denies the allegations.

  • Rabbi Avremi Zippel and three other rabbis brought signs to a Utah Jazz vs. Dallas Mavericks game that read 'I'm a Jew and I'm proud' to protest Dallas Mavericks player Kyrie Irving's past promotion of an antisemitic film.
  • Zippel claims that Irving noticed the signs early in the game and said, 'No need to bring that to the game.' Shortly after, Jazz security approached Zippel and demanded he put the sign down and show his tickets.
  • The Utah Jazz issued a statement claiming that the sign was not disallowed because of its content but because it had caused a 'disruption.'
  • Zippel blasted the Jazz on X for siding with Irving, stating, 'Sadly, instead of just quietly chalking this up to a misunderstanding and letting this remain a small blip, the Jazz took the side of a said triggered player and doubled down. That’s just disappointing to me.'
  • Irving's representative denied allegations that the Dallas Mavericks star told security at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City to tell four rabbis sitting courtside to put down their 'I’m a Jew and I’m proud' signs.
