Lakers Eyeing Potential Blockbuster Trade for Star Players

Internal discussions reveal plans to pursue either Donovan Mitchell or Trae Young ahead of trade deadline.

Lakers have internally discussed the possibility of packaging three picks and players to pursue a bona fide star, such as Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers or Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.
Donovan Mitchell, 27, is a four-time All-Star and is averaging 27.8 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.4 rebounds for the Cavs this season. He is in the third year of a five-year, $163 million contract.
Trae Young, 25, is a two-time All-Star who is averaging 26.9 points, 10.8 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest this season.
There has been no clear indication that the Cavs or Hawks intend to trade their star players, and recent reports suggest they don't want to.
Either Mitchell or Young would be huge additions for the Lakers since they would represent a third star alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
