Lawsuit Challenges Bay Bridge LED Light Installation Over Environmental and Disability Concerns

A California man claims the Bay Lights 360 project violates environmental and disability laws, seeking to halt its progress.

Mark Baker, founder of the Soft Lights Foundation, has filed a lawsuit against multiple government agencies involved in the Bay Lights 360 project.
The lawsuit alleges that the installation of 50,000 LED lights on the Bay Bridge violates the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Baker argues that LED lights cause harm to individuals with neurological conditions such as epilepsy, PTSD, and migraines, as well as to wildlife due to light pollution.
The lawsuit seeks to delay the project until required environmental and accessibility compliance reviews are conducted.
The Bay Lights 360 project aims to double the number of LEDs from a previous installation and has raised $10.5 million of its $11 million goal through donations.
