Lionesses Rescued from Ukraine War Zone Find Sanctuary in Scotland

Luna and Plusza, rescued from heavy shelling in eastern Ukraine, arrive at Five Sisters Zoo to begin a new life in a peaceful, purpose-built habitat.

Two four-year-old lionesses, Luna and Plusza, were rescued from eastern Ukraine in 2022 after surviving heavy shelling during the ongoing conflict.
The lionesses traveled through Kyiv, Poland, and Belgium before reaching their new home at Five Sisters Zoo in West Lothian, Scotland.
The zoo has created a purpose-built habitat to provide the space and tranquility needed for the lions to recover and thrive after their ordeal.
This rescue continues Five Sisters Zoo's commitment to rehabilitating animals from challenging circumstances, including previous rescues of circus animals and a bear from Ukraine.
