The building, measuring 100 metres by 50 metres, was 'well alight' and showing signs of potential collapse.
Firefighters and police evacuated nearby buildings and implemented road closures and a cordon around the area.
By 5pm, the fire was no longer classified as a major incident and the main body of the fire had been extinguished.
There were no reported casualties.
