Local Legend 'Stoneman Willie' to Receive Burial After 128 Years On Display

In 1895, an unidentified alcoholic died in a Pennsylvania jail and was accidentally mummified by an undertaker experimenting with embalming.
The mummy, nicknamed 'Stoneman Willie,' was displayed for 128 years at a local funeral home without proper burial.
Using newly uncovered historical records, Willie's identity was discovered and will be revealed at his burial on October 3, 2023.
To honor Willie, the city held a parade for its 275th anniversary, carrying his casket through town.
After decades as a storied icon, Willie will finally be laid to rest in a local cemetery with a gravestone bearing his real name.
