London Stage Adaptation of 'Brokeback Mountain' Falls Flat, Critics Say

A new West End adaptation of Annie Proulx's "Brokeback Mountain" has opened in London's @sohoplace theater.
The play features original songs by Dan Gillespie Sells, performed by Scottish singer-songwriter Eddi Reader.
The play is 90 minutes long with no intermission, and the two leads are Lucas Hedges and Mike Faist.
Critics say the play does not deepen our understanding of the material, and the action is too abbreviated to allow the full weight of what is happening between the characters to be felt.
The play recasts the story as a memory play, with the Older Ennis (played by Paul Hickey) on hand throughout to show the continued impact of Jack upon Ennis.
