Long Island Man Escapes Custody, Steals Patrol Car After DUI Arrest

The suspect was apprehended in a cemetery and faces multiple charges including grand larceny and driving while intoxicated.

John Gibson, 37, was arrested for suspected DUI by state troopers at around 5:30 a.m. Friday.
While handcuffed in the back of a patrol car, Gibson slipped his cuffs to the front and drove off in the vehicle.
The stolen patrol car was found approximately 3 miles away near a cemetery in West Babylon.
Gibson was apprehended in the cemetery and charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and other offenses.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment in Suffolk’s 1st District Court.
