  • Sant Tukaram was a prominent 17th-century saint and spiritual poet born in the Pune district, specifically in Lohegaon where the airport is located.
  • The renaming has received support from the ruling Mahayuti alliance, including the BJP, Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party.
