Malnourished Toddler Found Bound in Houston Apartment

Three Residents Charged with Child Abuse and Unlawful Restraint

  • Two maintenance workers found a malnourished two-year-old girl bound with duct tape in a Houston apartment while servicing a dishwasher.
  • The girl had suffered physical and psychological abuse, including a brain bleed from trauma, malnourishment, and a kidney injury.
  • Three residents of the apartment, Toniesha Deshae Perkins, Kenry Joseph Flukers, and Mya Jhari Breaux-McGruder, were arrested and charged with injury to a child and unlawful restraint of a person under 17.
  • Flukers claimed the girl's hands were bound to prevent her from sneaking food, while Perkins blamed the duct-taping on her other children, who she said often tied each other up.
  • Five other children living in the apartment appeared to be in good health.
