Man Arrested Following Girlfriend's Fatal Fall During Proposal

Evidence of struggle and ungiven engagement ring found at scene; victim's family claims she intended to end relationship.

Nizamettin Gursu has been arrested five months after his girlfriend, Yesim Demir, fell 100 feet off a cliff in Canakkale, Turkey, during a marriage proposal.
Gursu initially told police that Demir accepted his proposal, but later fell off the cliff while he was retrieving food and drinks from his car.
Authorities found the engagement ring Gursu claimed to have given Demir still in his pocket, along with broken glasses and a speaker at the scene, suggesting a struggle.
Demir's family informed investigators that she planned to break up with Gursu and would not have accepted his proposal. They also mentioned her fear of heights, casting doubt on her willingly being close to the cliff edge.
Gursu is currently in custody, awaiting trial.
