Man Living in Tent Convicted for Random Murder of Retired New Hampshire Couple

Logan Clegg, a 27-year-old living in a tent found guilty on all nine charges, including four each of second-degree murder and falsifying evidence plus one of being a felon in possession of a firearm, for the 2022 murder of retired humanitarian couple sensed on a trail walk; sentence to be decided December 15, 2023.

  • The convicted 27-year-old Logan Clegg was found living in a tent in the woods at the time of the murder of the retired couple, both known humanitarians, who were walking on a local trail.
  • Clegg was found guilty on all charges including four counts of second-degree murder, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and four counts of falsifying physical evidence related to the deaths of Stephen and Djeswende “Wendy” Reid.
  • After the murder, Clegg burned his tent, erased information from his computer and attempted to leave New Hampshire. He was arrested in South Burlington, Vermont, with a fake passport, a one-way ticket to Germany and a gun.
  • Despite police identifying matching bullet casings at the scene of the crime and Clegg's tent, the defence claimed there wasn't enough evidence to conclusively link the weapon to the murders, arguing multiple firearms could have been used.
  • The victims' son, Brian Reid, expressed relief at the guilty verdict, stating that Clegg would have continued to kill if not stopped, and highlighted the couple's legacy of international humanitarian work.
