Man Overboard on Royal Caribbean Cruise, Search Suspended

The 41-year-old passenger fell overboard off the South Carolina coast; the ship continued its voyage after an extensive but unsuccessful search.

A 41-year-old man fell overboard from the Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas cruise ship, which was en route to the Bahamas from Baltimore.
The incident occurred about 127 miles east of Charleston, South Carolina, and was immediately reported to local authorities.
The U.S. Coast Guard launched a search operation, which was suspended after about eight hours, having covered more than 1,625 square miles.
The ship's crew also conducted a search operation, which lasted for six hours and involved the use of a strobe lamp.
The ship continued its voyage to its next destination, Port Canaveral, Florida, after the search was called off.
