Man Sets Himself on Fire on Busy North London Street

Police and bystanders intervened to extinguish the flames after the man set himself alight following a domestic disturbance in Islington.

The incident occurred on North Road, Islington, at around 9:25 AM on Friday after police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance.
The man set himself on fire in the street in front of police officers and horrified onlookers, prompting immediate efforts to extinguish the flames.
Emergency responders and members of the public used a fire extinguisher, jackets, and water to put out the fire before the man was taken to the hospital.
The man's injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing, while a police officer sustained minor burns and was treated and discharged.
The Metropolitan Police have referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to their presence at the scene when the injuries occurred.
