Melbourne Principal Charged with Possession of Child Abuse Material
Langwarrin Park Primary School principal Richard Barren was arrested after returning from the US and is under investigation by federal authorities.
- Richard Barren, principal of Langwarrin Park Primary School in Melbourne's south-east, was charged with possession of child abuse material on January 26.
- Australian Border Force officers allegedly discovered the material on Barren's phone during a random baggage check at the airport.
- Federal police subsequently searched Barren's Mornington Peninsula home, seizing additional electronic devices as part of their investigation.
- Parents were informed of the charges through a letter from the Department of Education, which stated there is no evidence suggesting any students at the school were affected.
- Barren, currently on bail, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court and is scheduled to return in late May; an acting principal has been appointed to lead the school.
