Overview
- Gunfire erupted around 10:27 p.m. on May 26 during a car meetup at Lemon Hill Drive and Poplar Drive, leaving a man and a woman dead and nine people, including three teenagers, wounded.
- Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said officers were dispersing more than 200 people near Lemon Hill Drive when rapid rounds rang out into a mixed crowd of adults and juveniles.
- No arrests have been made and investigators have yet to recover any weapons as they canvas the park for shell casings, surveillance footage and other evidence.
- Commissioner Bethel indicated multiple rounds suggest the use of a ‘gun switch’ device to convert a semiautomatic handgun into full-automatic fire.
- All nine shooting survivors are in stable condition at area hospitals and Fairmount Park remains closed as the probe continues.
