Meta Faces Global Outage Impacting Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads

A technical issue disrupted access to Meta's major platforms worldwide, with services gradually being restored.

The outage began around 12:30 p.m. ET on December 11, 2024, affecting Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, and other Meta services.
Users reported issues such as login failures, unresponsive feeds, and delayed message delivery across multiple regions, including the U.S., Europe, Asia, and South America.
Meta acknowledged the problem on X, stating it was addressing the technical issue and apologizing for the inconvenience.
Downdetector recorded over 100,000 outage reports for Facebook and tens of thousands for Instagram and WhatsApp at the peak of the disruption.
By late evening, Meta reported that it was '99% of the way' to resolving the issue, with services slowly returning to normal for most users.
