Microsoft Fixes Windows Update Bug That Removed Copilot AI

A patch has been released to restore the Copilot app on affected devices, but Microsoft has yet to explain the cause of the issue.

Microsoft resolved a bug in its March 2025 Windows updates that unintentionally uninstalled the Copilot AI app from some Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.
The bug impacted systems running updates KB5053598 and KB5053606, causing the app to be removed and unpinned from the taskbar.
Users who did not want to wait for the automatic fix were advised to manually reinstall and pin the app via the Microsoft Store.
The issue did not affect the separate Microsoft 365 Copilot app, which remains fully functional.
Microsoft has not disclosed the root cause of the bug and did not include the issue on its Windows release health dashboard, drawing criticism for a lack of transparency.
