Minnesota Gophers Expected to Name Niko Medved as New Men's Basketball Coach

The Minnesota native and University of Minnesota alumnus is set to return after a successful tenure at Colorado State, signaling a new direction for the struggling program.

Niko Medved, who led Colorado State to three NCAA tournament appearances in the last four seasons, is widely reported to be the next head coach of the Minnesota Gophers men's basketball team.
Medved, a Roseville High School graduate and former Gophers assistant coach, has a history of rebuilding programs at Furman, Drake, and Colorado State.
During his seven seasons at Colorado State, Medved posted a 143-85 record, making him the second-winningest coach in the program's history.
The Gophers, who have made only five NCAA tournament appearances in the last 20 seasons, are aiming to revitalize their program with Medved's hiring.
Athletic director Mark Coyle targeted Medved early in the search to replace Ben Johnson, who was dismissed after a 15-17 season.
