Mississippi Officer Shoots 11-Year-Old Boy Who Called 911

Family Files $5 Million Lawsuit After Officer Cleared of Criminal Charges

  • Bodycam footage released shows Mississippi police officer, Sgt. Greg Capers, shooting 11-year-old Aderrien Murry, who had called 911 for help against his mother's violent ex-partner.
  • Murry survived the shooting but spent five days in hospital with injuries including a collapsed lung, fractured ribs and a lacerated liver.
  • No charges were brought against Sgt. Capers after a Mississippi grand jury found in December that he did not engage in criminal activity.
  • Murry's family has filed a $5 million civil lawsuit against Sgt. Capers, the city of Indianola and its police chief, alleging 'reckless disregard' for their rights and safety.
  • Sgt. Capers was suspended without pay during the investigation but was reinstated in December.
