Mother Kills 11-Year-Old Son, Drives Car into Ocean in Apparent Murder-Suicide Attempt

Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead strangled her son after struggling financially and not wanting him to face more hardship.
She fled Pennsylvania for New Jersey where she drove her SUV into the ocean in an apparent attempt to kill herself.
DiRienzo-Whitehead's son was found dead in the master bedroom by his father, who then called police.
The mother has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and possession of an instrument of crime.
DiRienzo-Whitehead will be extradited from New Jersey to Pennsylvania to face charges for killing her 11-year-old son.
