Voting for the awards will continue, and the ceremony plans to return in November 2024. The 2023 EMAs were originally set to air on MTV in over 150 countries and stream on Pluto TV and Paramount+.
This cancellation follows a series of cancellations of major entertainment events due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has led to the loss of thousands of lives.
The decision to cancel the event also comes as France is on high alert due to a series of security threats, including a stabbing incident and multiple bomb threats targeting the country's airports.
