  • Chavan had been in judicial custody since May 2024, following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a Rs 263-crore Income Tax Refund (ITR) fraud case.
  • The investigation revealed Chavan’s use of forged documents and unfulfilled promises to secure contracts and sell government properties, targeting victims in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Nashik.
  • IPS officer Rashmi Karandikar, questioned by the EOW in March 2025 regarding financial transactions with her husband, has filed for divorce citing financial and personal grievances.
