Police and prosecutors searched the Munich immigration office following allegations of corruption and irregularities in issuing residence permits.
The investigation stems from a formal complaint filed by the city's administrative department, which oversees the office.
Five current employees and one former staff member are suspected of accepting bribes in exchange for unlawfully granting permits between May 2022 and January 2024.
A non-governmental individual is also accused of facilitating bribes, forging documents, and acting as an intermediary between clients and staff.
Authorities have detained four employees and the intermediary, with extensive evidence now under review following searches of private residences and office spaces.
