O'Connor, who served on the Supreme Court from 1981 until her retirement in 2006, was remembered as a trailblazer for women and a tireless advocate for civility.
President Biden, who was the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee for O'Connor’s nomination, described her as 'gracious and wise, civil and principled.'
Chief Justice Roberts described O'Connor as a strong, influential and iconic jurist who was successful in breaking down barriers for women in the judiciary.
O'Connor, who died on Dec. 1 at the age of 93, was known for her independent thinking and often served as the deciding vote on an ideologically divided court.
