Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test Scheduled for October 4

A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will be conducted on October 4 across all televisions, radios, and cell phones in the U.S.
The purpose is to check the functionality and raise awareness of the system before it needs to be used in an actual emergency.
This will be the seventh EAS test for broadcast media and the second test for cell phones.
The system can send alerts for missing persons, imminent threats, public safety issues, and presidential alerts.
Previous tests checked that the infrastructure works; this test aims to check delivery to the public.
