Nationwide Public Sector Strikes Announced for Thursday

Healthcare, childcare, and emergency services to be disrupted as unions demand higher wages and better working conditions.

The Verdi union has called for a nationwide strike in hospitals, care facilities, and emergency services on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
The Sächsischer Erzieherverband has also announced strikes in kindergartens and after-school care programs in Saxony on the same day.
Unions are pressing for an 8% wage increase or a minimum of €350 more per month, alongside improved conditions such as higher overtime pay and three additional vacation days annually.
Protests and demonstrations are planned in cities like Leipzig and Dresden, with a focus on highlighting the challenges faced by female workers, who form the majority in sectors like childcare.
The third round of public sector wage negotiations between unions and employers is scheduled to take place from March 14 to 16 in Potsdam, following weeks of escalating strike actions.
