Negro Leagues All-Star Game Tribute Set for May 2024
Retired Players, Including CC Sabathia, to Participate in Event Coinciding with Opening of 'Souls of the Game: Voices of Black Baseball' Exhibit
- Retired baseball players, including CC Sabathia and Chris Young, will participate in a tribute to the Negro Leagues All-Star Game at the Baseball Hall of Fame's Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, New York, on May 25, 2024.
- The tribute game will coincide with the opening of the Hall's new exhibit, 'Souls of the Game: Voices of Black Baseball', which seeks to tell a comprehensive story of Black baseball from its origins to the present day.
- Ken Griffey Jr. and Ozzie Smith have agreed to manage or coach at the event, and other participants include Josh Barfield, Prince Fielder, Curtis Granderson, and Ryan Howard.
- The Negro Leagues East-West All-Star Game began in 1933 and was played annually through 1962. The tribute game will revive this traditional format.
- The Hall of Fame will also host the Jerry Malloy Negro League conference in June 2024 to promote scholarly and literary work on the subject.
