New Jersey Man Dies After Lightning Strike While Warning Beachgoers

Patrick Dispoto, 59, was struck by lightning as he tried to alert others of an approaching storm at Seaside Park beach.

Dispoto returned to the beach to warn a group of children about the incoming storm after ensuring his girlfriend's safety.
He was found unconscious on the beach and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Seaside Park officials emphasized that a new lightning detection system installation was already planned before the incident.
This is the third lightning-related death in the U.S. this year and the first in New Jersey since 2021.
Dispoto's girlfriend described him as a selfless person who always helped others.
