New York City Set to Outlaw Appearance-Based Discrimination

New York City is expected to ban discrimination based on a person's weight, height, and tattoos.
The law would prohibit employers and businesses from discriminating in employment, housing, and access to public accommodations.
The bill adds weight and height to the list of characteristics protected from discrimination, along with race, gender, age, religion, and sexual orientation.
The measure is supported by a majority of the City Council, with 33 co-sponsors out of 51 members.
A separate bill would ban discrimination against people with tattoos.
