Zary was given a two-minute minor penalty for interference during the game, and the NHL Department of Player Safety later deemed the hit worthy of supplemental discipline.
Pettersson, 21, briefly returned to the game but did not play beyond the first period; no injury updates have been provided by the Canucks.
Zary will forfeit $8,993 in salary and is set to miss games against the Colorado Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs, returning Tuesday against the New York Rangers.
