NHTSA Investigating Steering Control Issues in 2023 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y Vehicles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating around 280,000 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles over complaints about loss of steering control.
At least 12 complaints have been filed citing steering wheel locking up or sudden loss of power steering assist.
One reported crash connected to the steering issue but no injuries reported so far.
The preliminary probe will examine frequency and severity of the problem and may lead to a recall if unreasonable safety risk found.
This marks the fifth investigation into Tesla by NHTSA in the past three years over various issues.
