Nike Unveils Air Max Dn: A Revolutionary Upgrade to the Iconic Air Cushion Technology

The new design features a four-chamber air bag with dual internal pressures, set to hit the market on March 26.

  • Nike has introduced a new version of its iconic Air cushion technology, the Air Max Dn, which uses a four-chamber air bag with two separate internal pressures to better accommodate the ways feet move when walking and running.
  • The air bag is separated into discrete two-tube sections that allow air to flow between the chambers in each section. The back two tubes are set at an internal pressure of 15 pounds per square inch (PSI), and the front two have a pressure of 5 PSI.
  • The new Air Max Dn shoes will be available beginning March 26, and retail for $170. The technology is likely to end up inside the soles of basketball shoes, running shoes, and training shoes.
  • The Dynamic Air sole sits under the heel and features four tubes, with the dual-pressure air unit comprised of two pressurized chambers, each with two tubes.
  • The cylindrical units are then surrounded with Phylon foam. The combination of the air and its superpowers and the injected foam and its soft, cushy superpowers creates this soft heel strike landing.
