Nine Indian Institutions Rank in QS Top 50 by Subject for 2025

India sees its academic presence grow with 79 universities featured in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, including top global placements in engineering and management fields.

  • The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 feature 79 Indian universities, up from 69 last year, marking a 25.7% increase in entries.
  • Nine Indian institutions achieved top 50 positions globally, with Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad ranking 20th in Engineering-Mineral and Mining, the highest among Indian entries.
  • IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay secured 26th and 28th ranks respectively in the Engineering and Technology category, showcasing significant improvements from last year.
  • India also saw strong representation in fields like Arts and Humanities, Business and Management Studies, and Natural Sciences, though no Indian institution made the top 100 in these categories.
  • The rankings are based on five key indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper, H-index, and international research network.
