Northern California Faces Lingering Fire Risks as Red Flag Warning Ends

Fire weather conditions remain elevated through Tuesday due to dry fuels, gusty winds, and rising temperatures, despite the expiration of the Red Flag Warning.

A red flag warning is in effect through 8 p.m. Monday for the Sacramento Valley and parts of the interior Bay Area.
The risk of fire weather risk will spread southward through the Central Valley on Monday.

Wednesday will probably be the warmest day of the week.

Overview

  • The National Weather Service's Red Flag Warning for Northern California, issued Sunday through Monday evening, has now expired, but fire weather concerns persist in interior regions through Tuesday.
  • Gusty northerly winds, low humidity, and dry fine fuels continue to elevate wildfire risks, particularly in the Sacramento Valley and inland portions of the Bay Area.
  • Fire crews successfully contained a 50-acre brush fire in Brentwood and a 300-acre wildland fire in San Benito County over the weekend, with no reported damage to homes.
  • Temperatures are forecast to climb into the 90s in parts of inland Northern California by midweek, further drying vegetation and prolonging fire weather concerns.
  • PG&E has stated that no public safety power shutoffs are planned, but Cal Fire officials urge residents to maintain vigilance and preparedness as early fire season conditions develop.
