Nurse Accused of Murdering Infants Denies Charges, Claims 'Incompetence' But No Malice

Lucy Letby, a British nurse, is on trial for allegedly killing seven newborns and attempting to kill 10 more while working in a neonatal unit.
Letby broke down crying in court, claiming she meant no harm and did her best to care for the babies despite her "incompetence."
Letby was removed from her position in 2016 after a suspicious string of infant deaths and near-deaths in her care, and was arrested multiple times before being charged in 2020.
Prosecutors say Letby confessed in notes and sent a sympathy card to parents of a baby she allegedly killed, but Letby denies harming any children.
Letby says she now suffers from PTSD, depression and anxiety, and needs medication to sleep due to the trauma of her arrests and the charges against her.
