NYC Teens Arrested After Crashing Stolen Subway Train
Two 17-year-olds took an out-of-service subway car for a joyride before crashing it into another train in Queens.
- Two teenagers, a boy and a girl, boarded an empty subway train in Queens shortly after midnight on September 12.
- The teens managed to move the train about 50 feet before crashing it into another parked train at the Briarwood subway station.
- Police identified the suspects from surveillance footage and arrested both; the girl was taken into custody first, followed by the boy, who was turned in by a family member.
- Both teens face charges of first-degree criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.
- Interim Transit Authority President Demetrius Crichlow condemned the act as extremely foolish and reckless, noting the potential for a much more dangerous outcome.
