NYPD officer indicted for assault after allegedly punching man more than a dozen times during service call in December 2022

NYPD officer Christian Zapata was indicted on one count of assault for allegedly punching a man multiple times.
The incident occurred in December 2022 when officers responded to a call about an emotionally disturbed child.
Zapata claimed he perceived a hostile threat from the man who had asked officers to wear masks and called for a supervisor.
The assault was captured on police body-worn cameras.
Zapata said he was responding to the man fighting with a fellow officer.
