• O2 Telefónica and 5G Synergiewerk are converting streetlights into Smart Poles equipped with 5G small cells and LED lighting, connected via fiber-optic lines.
• Following successful pilots in Frankfurt, Cologne, and Würzburg, the nationwide rollout targets Germany's 25 largest cities in its first phase.
• The first new Smart Poles are being installed in Frankfurt at Kornmarkt, Nibelungenplatz, and Mainzer Landstraße this May.
• Future deployments are planned at major event locations such as Oktoberfest in Munich and Rheinkirmes in Düsseldorf, as well as tourist regions like the North Sea and Lake Constance.
• The initiative addresses rising data demand in urban centers and areas with limited rooftop antenna options, enhancing mobile network capacity for users and businesses.
