Oakland Records First Homicide in Two Months

A man was fatally shot in East Oakland, marking the city's 72nd homicide of the year.

The shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon around 2:35 pm in the area of 71st Avenue and Hamilton Street.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found with a gunshot wound to the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.
This incident is the first homicide in Oakland since a fatal shooting at a homeless encampment on September 28.
Oakland had experienced a period of no homicides throughout October, a fact celebrated by city leaders.
Authorities are investigating the motive and are seeking public assistance for any information or evidence.
